Recovery starts now

Stop waiting for eating disorder recovery to feel less scary

I recommend that you stop hoping that one day recovery will become easy, and this is why.

You might think that one day the fear of weight gain, or the fear of certain foods, or the fear of losing control will suddenly disappear. I must inform you that recovery will not come without some fear. Just like recovery is not a one choice decision; eating disorder recovery is a continuous decision that you have to make over and over on a daily basis. Being wiser than the insecurities, nourishing yourself regardless of the body image thoughts, and challenging all the intrusive thoughts, recovery takes courage. The moment you decide to face your fears instead of waiting, is the moment you start truly recovering.

It might feel like the longer you wait to recover, or the sicker you get, the easier the decision to recover will become - it will not. There is never going to be a "right time" to begin the journey. So, make the right time now. Realistically, the longer you stay sick, the longer you are going to spend recovering half way and then relapsing. and the more you wait for it to be less scary, the scarier it is going to get.

At the end of the day, the only thing that comes out of waiting is more rules, more fear, and more disordered behaviors. That is why I recommend you stop waiting for recovery to not be scary; because if you wait to until recovery feels less scary, you might be waiting forever.

Start true recovery today.
